Women's Walk - A Message from the Honorary Chair

2011 Women's Walk Honorary Chair

I am honored to be the Honorary Chair for the Women's Walk this year. I've been a sports enthusiast all my life. In my day, women's sports were not recognized like they are today. When I played competitive fastpitch softball, I was considered to be a "tom boy". I'm thrilled that, finally, women/student-athletes can compete in any sport and still be ladies.

Even though I did not attend Augustana, I'm so proud of the school, it's role in the community, the terrific sports activities and quality education. I'm further proud that at Augustana women/student-athletes can participate in as many as 9 varsity sports. I've been a supporter of Augustana sports for more than 25 years and have served on the Booster Club Board of Directors. Every chance I get, you'll see me at a basketball game, football game or some other Augustana sporting event.

Today our lives are focused on health and health issues. The Women's Walk is an opportunity to come together and raise money for scholarships so that our young women can continue to participate competitively, stay healthy and graduate from a quality institution.

I'm planning to participate in the Women's Walk this year. I encourage you to put your team together or walk individually. Let's together set our "goal" to make the 7th year of this event a "home run," a "slam dunk." I'll plan to see you there.
