BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The Augustana women's basketball team has been selected to finish third overall in the NSIC and was picked to win the NSIC South Division, the league announced Wednesday morning.
The Vikings received two first place votes and garnered 200 points in the overall conference standings, just nine points short of Northern State, who was picked to finish second in the league. Augustana received five first place votes to win the NSIC South Division.
In 2016, the Vikings posted a 23-8 record, making it the 12th time in the last 13 years they have won at least 20 games under the guidance of head coach Dave Kruath, who's beginning his 29th year at the helm.
Logan O'Farrell has been chosen as Augustana's player to watch in the conference. The senior guard was the Vikings leading scorer from a season ago, averaging 12.2 points and 7.7 rebounds a contest. The Summit, S.D., product was the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year last season and was named first team All-NSIC.
Lynsey Prosser, who joins O'Farrell as one of the four returning starters from 2016, is the team's returning three-point shooter. The junior guard knocked down 41 shots from behind the arc last season at a 30 percent clip.
