MANKATO, Minn. – Olivia Montez Brown made her presence known on day one of the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn. with a personal best and provisional mark in the pentathlon.
On Friday, Montez Brown scored 3,808 points in the pentathlon, which is the best mark in the NSIC and the third best score in all of Division II. Her score was also the 13th best among all collegiate divisions.
Montez Brown finished first in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. Montez Brown raced to a time of 8.79 in the 60-meter hurdles and had a leap of 18-10 in the long jump, good for a foot further than the rest of the competition.
Montez Brown also took second in the high jump and the 800-meters and finished third in the shot put. In the high jump, Montez Brown set a personal record with a mark of 5-04.25 and had a season best time in the 800-meters with a time of 2:25.67.
Melissa Barella finished her first pentathlon of the season with 2,553 points. Barella took seventh in the 800-meters and eighth in the high jump.
Through four events in the heptathlon,
Peter Schukking amassed 2,331 points and
Alex Woods accumulated 2,272 points. Schukking finished in third in the shot put and 10th in the high jump and Woods took ninth in the 60-meters and the high jump. Both, Schukking and Woods set personal bests in the high jump.
In the pole vault,
Lily Noble set a season best with a mark of 10-04, good for 11th, and
Brody Jorenson and
Matt Pohlmann took 14th and 16th, respectively.
The Vikings return for day two of the MSU Open on Saturday with field events and the men's heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 12 p.m.
