BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Augustana University junior guard
Jordan Spencer has been named to the 2017 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List Small College Basketball announced Sunday.
The list consists of 100 of the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in NCAA Division II & III, NAIA Division I & II, USCAA and NCCAA. Members of the Bevo Francis Award committee chose the top 100 watch-list student-athletes from over 1,100 colleges and universities and took into consideration individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success.
Spencer, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound guard from Milton Keynes, England, has started all 18 games at point guard for the Vikings and is averaging 14.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game. Spencer has scored in double-digits in 15 games this season while dishing out six or more assists in 14 games. He currently leads the NSIC and ranks fifth in the country in total assists with 137.
Spencer ranks second all-time at Augustana with 583 career assists, which is the second-most amongst all active NCAA Division II players and the sixth-most across all three divisions. He is the NCAA Division II career active leader in assists per game (6.8) and assist to turnover ratio (3.24). Spencer is a two-time All-NSIC Second Team selection and was named the league's Freshman of the Year in 2014-15.
On Feb. 15, Small College Basketball will publish the next Watch List with 50 players. The list will be narrowed down to 25 players on March 15 with the finalists being announced on April 1.
Augustana begins a four-game road swing this weekend starting Jan. 20-21 at Upper Iowa and Winona State. The Vikings enter the weekend with a record of 13-5 on the season, including 8-4 in NSIC play.
