Sydney Rome's first career double-double helps Augustana route Minot State in first round of NSIC Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - No. 3 Augustana women's basketball (22-7) defeated No. 6 Minot State (11-18) in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament 96-75 Wednesday night as Sydney Rome earned her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Logan O'Farrell got the scoring started for the Vikings as she scored the first five points of the game to help Augustana grab the lead early. The Vikings built their largest lead of the half to 13 points behind the team's hot shooting from behind the arc starting 3-of-4 They ended the half with eight, three point baskets. The lead wouldn't last long though as Minot State ended the first quarter on a 15-6 run to cut the Viking lead to just four. The second quarter was an even affair as neither team was able to shoot over 33 percent and the Vikings were only able to outscore the Beavers by two in the quarter, holding a 42-36 advantage as the teams went into the locker room

The Vikings blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Beavers 30-19. Sydney Rome got the scoring started in the quarter with a jumper before Sophie Kenney would score two of her eight third quarter points. The scoring was spread out in the fourth quarter as O'Farrell and Kerkhoff each scored five points while Kenney and Allie Sievert each scored four. The whole team got involved Wednesday as 11 different Viking scored on their way to defeating Minot State 96-75.

VIKING OF NOTE
Junior Sydney Rome did it all for the Vikings in the first round of the NSIC basketball tournament Wednesday. Rome set career-high's in both rebounds and assists with 10 and eight respectively. She earned her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She was active in the passing lanes as well, tying a career-high with four steals.
