SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men's cross country team were not going to be denied an eight consecutive NSIC championship on their home course on Saturday. Led by senior
Glen Ellingson, who repeated as NSIC champion, the Vikings blew away the field having seven runners earn All-NSIC honors.
Ellingson ran the 8k course at Yankton Trail Park in 24:10.96, finishing ahead of the second place finisher by 12 seconds. Ellingson becomes Augustana's second male runner to record multiple NSIC Individual Championships. Ellingson two titles ranks behind Paul Yak, who won three consecutive titles from 2011-2013.
Rounding out the team scoring for the Vikings were
Nathan Hauge (fourth),
Keegan Carda (sixth), Jesus Urtusuastegui (eighth) and
John Klecker (ninth). All four of those student-athletes earned First Team All-NSIC honors.
Nate Souther and
Nathan Schroeder finished 16th and 18th respectively, earning themselves Second Team All-NSIC honors.
Head coach
Tracy Hellman took home his eighth straight NSIC Men's Coach of the Year award after claiming his eighth consecutive men's championship. Urtusuastegui took home NSIC Men's Newcomer of the Year after finishing eighth.
The women's cross country took fifth at the NSIC Championships with 135 points. U-Mary took first, with Minnesota Duluth finishing right behind them. Winona State and MSU-Moorhead finished third and fourth, respectively.
The top finisher for the Viking women was sophomore
Mackenzie Kelly. Kelly finished the 6k course in 14th with a time of 21:27.89 and earned Second Team All-NSIC honors.
Rounding out the team scoring for the Vikings were
Annie Kruse (22nd),
Alana Sesow (23rd),
Rebekah Rairdon (34th) and
Cassidy Soli (43rd).
The Vikings will return to action of Nov. 5 for the Central Region Championships at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
