SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head softball coach
Gretta Melsted announced today the signing of
Abby Chandler to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Augustana.
Chandler, a native of Needles, Calif., is a 2013 graduate of Needles High School and four-year letterwinner and starter. Chandler, a four-time academic all-league selection, earned academic all-state honors in 2012 and 2013. She has twice been named the MVP of her conference and is a three-time first team all-state selection. Chandler is a three-time all-conference first team selection and was named conference freshman of the year as well as the state's freshman of the year in 2010.
"We are very excited to have
Abby Chandler become the next Augustana Viking," Melsted said. "She has a great arm and is extremely athletic and can play both infield and outfield. In addition, she is an extremely strong student who will enjoy the rigors of Augustana. Most importantly though, she is a good person with strong character."
Chandler is the fourth member of the 2014 Augustana softball recruiting class, joining
Mackenzie Alstott, Jennifer Hall and
Sarah Kennedy, who all signed earlier this season.
The Vikings finished their season with a 32-17 overall record, making their fourth straight and 21st overall NCAA Tournament appearance, and finished sixth in the NSIC regular season with a 17-9 mark.
