Vikings drop final two regular season road matches

ST. PETER, Minn. – Augustana men's tennis dropped two matches on Saturday in an afternoon doubleheader. The Vikings fell to St. Cloud State 6-3 before losing to 18th-ranked Division III Gustavus Adolphus in the night cap.  The Vikings are now 5-5 in 2013.
 
Match One
Jared Hofer tallied two wins to lead the Vikings, but St. Cloud State was too much and took the team match 6-3.  Hofer won at No. 4 singles in a three-set affair for one of Augustana's two singles wins.  The freshman won the won 6-4, 5-7, and the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-5. 
 
Hofer teamed with Jackson Buchanan at No. 2 doubles and won 8-6 for the lone Viking win on the doubles side.
 
Dance Rasmussen was the other Viking to win his singles match, taking the No. 6 singles bout in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Match Two
Augustana opened the dual winning two of the three doubles matches, but was swept on the singles side, losing 7-2 to No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday night.
 
Mitchell Barr and Collin Noldner paired up at No. 1 doubles to take down the top Gustie squad, 8-4.  Brock Baade joined Rasmussen at No. 3 doubles to edge out GAC's third pairing 8-6.
 
Barr couldn't carry over his success to the singles side and lost a heartbreaker at No. 1 singles in three sets.  Barr took the first set 7-5, but was held at bay by Matt Baker in the next two sets, losing 6-3 in the second and 10-5 in the third-set super-tiebreaker. 
 
Noldner held his own on the singles side as well, but couldn't break GAC's Matt Bettes and fell 6-4, 6-4.  The rest of the Vikings lost in straight sets and the Gusties took the match 7-2.
 
Augustana has a quick turnaround, taking on Nebraska-Kearney in a dual match at Sioux Empire Fitness on Monday, April 15 for their regular season finale.
