Jesperson's 7-1 trip earns her NSIC player of the week

NSIC RELEASE

BURNSVILLE, Minn.
– Augsutana women's tennis player Katie Jesperson was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference player of the week in a release on Monday afternoon.  This is Jesperson's first honor this season and the third for a Viking tennis player.

Jesperson tallied a 7-1 overall record during the Vikings' four dual matches in Orlando, Fla. this past week.  In singles, Jesperson was a perfect 4-0 against extremely stiff competition.  Augustana's top singles player took down the No. 1 singles competitors from ASA College, the fifth-ranked junior college, and two NCAA Division I opponents, Chicago State and Radford.

The Elk River, Minn. native defeated Dayan Agasieva in three sets to open the Vikings' spring trip.  The following two days, the junior led the Augustana attack to split matches against CSU and RU with two more singles wins.

Jesperson downed her Cougar opponent in straight sets before beating her Radford adversary in another three-set affair.  Against the Vikings' only Division II opponent, St. Michael's, Jesperson cruised to a 7-5, 6-0 victory.

On the double's side, Jesperson teamed with Michelle Wadas and posted a 3-1 record in Florida.  The top tandem for Augustana suffered just their third loss of the season against ASA College.  Jesperson and Wadas fell in a tiebreaker 9-8 against the Avengers.

Bouncing back quickly, No. 1 doubles pairing beat Chicago State and Radford 8-6 each.  In the spring break finale, Jesperson and Wadas defeated St. Michael's 8-1.

Jesperson is 11-1 in singles in the 2013 season with her only loss coming at the hands of Division I Northern Iowa's No. 1 singles.  In doubles, Jesperson and Wadas own a 11-3 record.

The Vikings return to NSIC action against St. Cloud State and Bemidji State with a doubleheader on March. 23 hosted by the Huskies.
