Vikings push Marian to the brink but fall short in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla.
– Augustana suffered its third straight loss when they fell 5-4 to Marian in their final match of the spring trip.  The Vikings dropped to 4-3 on the season with their loss to the Knights.
 
The Vikings split the singles matches but dropped the No. 2 doubles match 9-7 which ultimately decided the team match.
 
Mitchell Barr lost the No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-1, but Collin Noldner evened the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win at No. 2.  Jackson Buchanan fell at the third singles slot, but once again Jared Hofer responded with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win in the fourth singles spot.
 
Colan Surratt was blanked 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, but Dane Rasmussen pulled out a thriller at No. 6 singles.  Rasmussen took the first set 7-6 (7), but Taylor Kinney evened the match with a 6-3 second-set win.  Rasmussen then took the final singles match with a 10-4 third-set tiebreak win.
 
Barr and Noldner paired up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles but Rasmussen and Brock Baade lost the No. 3 match 8-2.  Buchanan and Hofer pushed their opponents to the brink but couldn't win as they fell 9-7 to give the Knights their 14th victory of the season. 
 
The Vikings return to action on March 26 by hosting Colorado Mesa at 3 p.m.
