BURNSVILLE, Minn.
 - Freshman Jessa Richards was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tennis player of the week by the conference in a release Tuesday morning.  This is Richards' first player of the week honor of her career and the second consecutive for an Augustana tennis player.

A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Richards is a perfect 6-0 on the season in both singles and doubles in her first collegiate season. This past weekend, Richards notched straight set victories in her singles matches while earning commanding wins on the doubles side as well.

Playing at No.2 singles, Richards defeated her Upper Iowa opponent 6-3, 6-0 and then teamed up with Hannah Gebauer for an 8-0 shutout of the Upper Iowa's No. 2 doubles team.

In the second match of the day, Richards was bumped up to No. 1 singles where she did what she does best, winning 6-0, 6-1.  Playing with Gebauer at No. 1 doubles against Southwest Minnesota State, Richards remained perfect in 2013 with an 8-3 win.

Richards and Gebauer are ranked as the eighth-best doubles pairing in the Central Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Vikings hit the road this weekend to face Minnesota, Crookston and Minnesota Duluth on March 23 before facing College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. on March 24.
