Women's tennis stays undefeated with two 9-0 victories

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.
– Augustana stretched its conference winning streak to 39 matches with two commanding victories over a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Opponents. The Vikings beat both Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State 9-0 to move to 6-0 on the season with a 5-0 mark in NSIC matches.
 
Match One
In the singles matches, Augustana won all six in straight sets  over the Upper Iowa Peacocks, who are ranked eighth in the preseason Central Region rankings. 
 
Katie Jesperson set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win and Jessa Richards and Michelle Wadas both won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles to put the Vikings up 3-0 in the team score.  Hannah Gebauer won 6-1, 6-1 at No.4 and Heather Sullivan took her match 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth slot. 
 
Jenna Helleberg closed out the singles matches with a 6-1, 6-0 win.  On the doubles side, Jesperson and Wadas won 8-4 at the top spot.  Richards and Gebauer teamed up to blank UIU's No. 2 team 8-0.  Sullivan and Helleberg won 8-1 to complete the sweep.
 
Match Two
The Vikings defeated SMSU 9-0 for their second win of the day without much of a fight from the visiting Mustangs.
 
Richards played at the top singles flight and won 6-0, 6-1 and Wadas filled Richards' void at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.  Sullivan dropped her opponent by a 6-0, 6-2 score and Helleberg won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Liz Lewis won 6-0, 6-1 and Jessica Spalding defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 in the final singles slot.  Richards and Gebauer won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles 8-3 and Jesperson combined with Wadas to win 8-2 in the second doubles slot.  Lewis and Gabrielle Kachena earned their first doubles victory at No.3, 8-2.
 
The Vikings travel to Duluth, Minn. for a pair of matches on Feb. 23 against Minnesoat, Crookston and Minnesota Duluth.
