SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana head men's basketball coach
Tom Billeter announced Monday Branden Stubbs will transfer from the University of Iowa to Augustana for the 2012-13 season.
A native of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Stubbs played in 16 games in two seasons at Iowa, scoring 26 points in 54 minutes of action. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Stubbs enjoyed a decorated prep career at Des Moines Christian High School, where he was a four-time all-conference and three-time all-state selection. He was named the Iowa 2A Player of the Year as a senior in 2009-10. He finished his high school career with 2,145 points and 717 assists. The four-year starter captained his team for a pair of seasons and was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
As a senior, Stubbs averaged 26.3 points and 6.6 assists per contest while shooting 61 percent from the field. His junior campaign included 23.3 points and 7.6 assists per game. Stubbs averaged 19.3 points and 7.7 assists per outing as a sophomore.
"Branden is a very smart player who has spent the last two years playing and practicing against some outstanding competition,” Billeter said. “He has been well coached and brings an overall toughness along with experience to a position we did not have a great deal of depth at.”
Stubbs joins Daniel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa), Zach Huisken (Chandler, Minn.), Jack Preston (Basingstoke, Hampshire, England), Casey Schilling (Ellsworth, Minn.) and Tanner Odegaard (Brookings, S.D.) in Billeter's 2012-13 recruiting class.
Augustana made its 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2011-12 and finished the season 17-11. The Vikings tied for fourth in the NSIC with a 14-8 conference mark.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
