SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head men's basketball coach
Tom Billeter announced Monday that Alex Richter from Lakeville, Minn., has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Augustana beginning in 2011-12.
Richter, a 6-foot-6 wing, will graduate from Lakeville South High School this spring. A four-year letterwinner and starter, Richter averaged 23.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists during his senior season. He became LSHS's all-time leading scorer in 2010-11 with 1,995 points and guided his team to a section championship and state-tournament appearance.
The three-time All-South Suburban Conference pick led his league in scoring for three seasons and was twice named all-state. Richter also picked up All-Metro honors and was an academic all-state honoree during his junior and senior seasons.
As a junior, Richter averaged 23.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest; he also netted 19.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per outing as a sophomore.
"Alex is a big, strong wing who can finish plays, rebound and defend," Billeter said. "He is coming off an extremely successful senior season which saw his team advance to the Minnesota state tournament. He's not only a terrific basketball player but an outstanding student as well. We are looking forward to a very productive four years."
Richter joins Ben Reker, a forward from Appleton, Wis., and Drae Murray, a guard from Huntsville, Texas, in the Vikings' 2011-12 recruiting class.
Augustana finished the 2010-11 season 18-9 overall and 15-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Vikings were third in the final conference standings.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
