Augustana freshman Emily Kvidera has been named 2010 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Golf Newcomer of the Year while head coach Peggy Kirby earned Coach of the Year Honors, the conference office announced today. In addition, Kate Tobin was named to the All-NSIC First Team.
Kvidera, a Blaine, Minn. native, was named the NSIC Women's Golf Newcomer of the Year after winning medalist honors at the 2009-10 NSIC Women's Golf Championships. There she shot a three round total of 226 (+13), including a tournament low round of 73 in the final round help the Vikings to the team championship. Kvidera owns a 79.8 average on the season and won the Augustana Invite earlier this season as well as finishing second at the Minnesota State invite. Kvidera was one of five golfers named to the NSIC Women's Golf Championship All-Tournament Team.
Kirby, in her seventh season at Augustana, helped lead the Vikings to the NSIC Women's Golf Championships played in Brandon, S.D. this year. This season she has coached two all-conference performers and the NSIC Women's Newcomer of the Year. Kirby has led the Viking to the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons.
Junior Kate Tobin was named to the All-NSIC first team after finishing seventh at the NSIC tournament. She also claimed medalist honors at the Wayne State Invitational earlier this season, helping the Vikings to at third place finish at that tournament.
The Vikings will participate in the NCAA Super Region 3 Tournament in Lake City, Minn. on May 2-4. The team tees off at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday. Kvidera and Tobin will participate along with teammates Kelly Lauer, Jennifer Benoy, and Kelli Lowry.
