Augustana Basketball Inks Sioux Falls Native

Shaunteva Ashley of Sioux Falls, S.D., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Augustana and play basketball for the Vikings, head coach Dave Krauth announced today.
 
Ashley, a 5-8 guard from Roosevelt High School, put together a stellar senior year, averaging 18.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game for the Riders. She has scored 1,100 career points at Roosevelt and was named to the All-Sioux Falls, All-Greater Dakota Conference, and All-South Dakota teams as a senior.
 
A Miss Basketball finalist, Ashley was named 2009-10 South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and earned the AA Spirit of the Sioux Award. She was also named the Argus Leader Player of the Year and the South Dakota Basketball Coaches AA Player of the Year in addition to being named to the South Dakota State All-Tournament Team. Also a performer in the classroom, she made the academic honor roll every semester of her high school career.
 
“Shaunteva will be a womderful addition to Augustana and our basketball program,” Krauth said. “She had a great career and even better senior season at Roosevelt High School. She is team-oriented, hard-working, and willing to do whatever she can to make the team successful. We are very excited to have Shaunteva join the Augustana community.”
