Kayla Wallerich and
Christine Bielski have signed national letters of intent to attend Augustana and play volleyball for the Vikings, head coach
Ashley Buckley announced today.
“Augustana volleyball is excited to add Kayla Wallerich and Christine Bielski to our roster for the 2010 season,” Buckley said. “Both players come from strong high school programs that do a great job of teaching the game.”
Wallerich is a setter / right side from Marshall, Minn., where she was a four-year starter and letterwinner for Marshall HS. While Wallerich was with the Tigers, the team won two Class AA Minnesota State Championships (2007, 2009) and earned runner-up in 2008. During that time the team also posted a 110-22 four-year record.
She was named to the State All-Tournament team three straight years and was named All-Minnesota as a senior after earning honorable mention in both her junior and sophomore seasons.
A two-year team captain, she recorded her 1000th career assist in her senior season and was also named to the Breakdown Minnesota Sports Preview's top 10 setters and top 70 seniors lists.
Also a performer in the classroom, Wallerich earned Academic All-Minnesota as a senior.
"Kayla is a versatile player that will be able to help our team in a lot of different areas, both offensively and defensively,” Buckley said. “I expect that she'll come in, compete hard, and raise the level of play because of her attitude toward competition.”
Christine Bielski is a libero / defensive specialist from Chaska, Minn, where she was a three-year letterwinner.
While playing for the Hawks, she helped lead the team to a Lake Conference Championship and two section runner-up finishes.
As a senior she was named Lake Conference Honorable Mention and earned Academic All-State Honors.
”Christine has grown this spring and I think she'll come in and push our back court to be more consistent out of serve receive,” Buckley said. “She has a lot of potential and it'll be fun to watch her develop as a player.”
The pair joins Lindsey Petersen of Elkhart, Iowa and Holly Hafemeyer of Fairbault, Minn., who already signed during the early signing period in November.
