After beating Wayne State (Michigan) on Saturday night, the Augustana baseball team fell to them 5-3 on Sunday morning.

The Vikings are now 5-6 overall and the Warriors are 1-1.

The Vikings put a runner on in each of the first two innings, but were unable to convert them into runs.

The Warriors were able to take a 1-0 lead in the second with Alex Trojan was walked and then reached second on an error by pitcher Per Nestigen. A single to center by Brad Guenther scored Trojan. The Vikings were able to escape the inning without any more damage as Paul LaManita hit into a double play.
Trojan bothered the Vikings again in the fourth, singling to center field. Guenther reached on an error by the first baseman, and Trojan was able to advance to third. A double by LaMantia scored both runners and gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead after four innings.

Wayne State manufactured a run in the fifth after Bailey walked and then advanced to second on a single by Andrew Ciennik. A sacrifice bunt by Kyle Vesey moved both runners up before Jamie Bailey scored on the ground out by Ryan LaPensee.

The Vikings were finally able to generate some offense in the sixth, thanks to an error by the Warrior short stop, which allowed Nate Hewes to reach first. Drew Heithoff singled, and a single to right field by Nate Baumann scored Hewes. Heithoff and Baumann then stole third and second, respectively, and were brought home on a single to center field by Deryk Marks. Augie was back in the game, making the score 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the inning, Nestigen put LaMantia on base with a hit by pitch. He scored on a double by Skaggs, rebuilding the Warrior lead to 5-3.

Neither team would score again, giving Wayne State the victory.

Marks was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Charlie Dubanoski was also 2 for 4. Baumann also recorded an RBI.

Nestigen suffered the loss for the Vikings. He went five innings with two earned runs on six hits. He struck out four batters.

Augie will play again today at 4 p.m. against Drury University.
