Viking Men Jump to No. 17 in NABC Division II Top 25 Poll

Viking Men Jump to No. 17 in NABC Division II Top 25 Poll

Following a 2-0 record last week that included a win over the No. 3 team in the nation, the Augustana men's basketball team jumped 6 spots to No. 17 in this NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, which was released today. It is the highest ranking for the Vikings this season.

Last week Augustana defeated Southwest Minnesota State 89-58 and then-third-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato, 83-76 to improve its record to 16-2 on the season. The Vikings are in second place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with a 9-2 league mark. Augustana is 1 game behind MSU in the conference standings.

Augustana received 66 points this week to vault back into the top 20. Arkansas Tech remained the No. 1 team in the nation for the second week in a row, just ahead of Southern Indiana.

Minnesota State, which is the only other NSIC team in the top 25, slipped only 2 spots to fifth following its loss to the Vikings.

Augustana faces a tough road trip this weekend. On Friday, the Vikings will be in St. Paul, Minn., to take on Cocordia, St. Paul in an 8 p.m. contest. Then on Saturday, Augustana will square off against St. Cloud State in a 6 p.m. matchup. Augustana defeated both teams earlier this season at the NSIC Holiday Hoopsfest. The Vikings downed Concordia 85-63 before edging St. Cloud State 89-80.
