Ty Copsey has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week after helping lead the 10th-ranked Vikings to a pair of conference wins over top 10 opponents.
Copsey, a 197-pounds junior from Glenwood, Iowa, recorded 2 big wins to help the Vikings remain in first place in the NSIC standings with a 3-0 record. In Augustana's 25-7 win over No. 8 St. Cloud State, Copsey, ranked No. 2 in the nation, defeated No. 6 Lukas Munkelwitz 7-3 in the opening match of the dual.
Then on Saturday, Copsey recorded a 13-1 major decision over Minnesota State's John Makabe, amassing 4:04 of riding time in the process to go along with a 2-point near fall and a 3-point near fall. Copsey's win clinched Augustana's 20-15 victory over No. 4 Minnesota State.
Augustana improved to 7-4 in duals this season with the weekend sweep. The Vikings, who are currenlty tied with Upper Iowa for first place in the NSIC, return home this weekend for the final home duals of the season. Augustana faces U-Mary on Friday at 7 p.m. and Northern State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Vikings will recognize Senior Night during Friday's dual and Parents Day prior to Saturday's dual.
