Nate Herda scored a 17-7 major decision over St. Cloud State's Jacob Horn during the Vikings' 25-7 win over the Huskies Friday night.

The Augustana wrestling team remained unbeaten in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action and avenged an earlier loss with a 25-7 conference win over St. Cloud State Friday night in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Vikings, ranked 10th in the nation, improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC, while the eighth-ranked Huskies fell to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Augustana, trailed only briefly in the dual before taking over the contest after two matches.

Ty Copsey got the Vikings off to a good start, beating Lucas Munkelwitz 7-3 in a matchup of the top 2 wrestlers in the region. Copsey is ranked second in the nation, while Munkelwitz is ranked sixth.

St. Cloud State, which beat Augustana 19-18 2 weeks ago at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals, grabbed its only lead of the night when Jake Kahnke, ranked sixth in the country scored a 10-1 major decision over Lance Peters.

From that point on, the Vikings dominated. Al Meger, Laramie Shaffer and Jay Sherer all gained victories by decision to push the Augustana advantage to 12-4. Meger defeated Trent Herold 8-3 at 125 pounds before Shaffer blanked Shane McQuade 7-0. Sherer followed with a 5-3 win over Chad Schultz.

Nate Herda, the region’s top-ranked 149-pounder, gained the only bonus points for the Vikings when he beat Jacob Horn 17-7 for a major decision. The Vikings also got a win from Marcus Edgington, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 157 pounds. Edgington edged eighth-ranked John Sundgren 8-6 to increase the Augie lead to 19-4.

Augustana won the 165 and 174-pound matches by decision as well. Gavin Nelson downed Adam Minette 8-4 at 165 pounds, while Carl Serck gained a 5-3 win over Shamus O’Grady. Those wins gave Augustana a 25-4 lead.

St. Cloud State ended the dual with a win as Derek Skala beat Augie’s Nick Henning 6-4.

Augustana continues its weekend road trip on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Mankato, Minn., for a battle with No. 4 Minnesota State University, Mankato. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
