Augustana Soccer Loses in Overtime to Montana-State Billings

The Augustana women's soccer team ended the weekend with a 3-2 loss to Montana State-Billings on Sunday in Billings, Mont. MSUB scored a goal seven minutes into the second overtime to break a 2-2 tie and earn the win.

This drops the Vikings to 2-2-1 on the season while MSUB improves to 2-2 overall.

The Yellowjacket struck first, with Kari Foreman scoring 23:37 played in the first half. Junior midfielder Katie Shandri scored for the Vikings on a penalty kick just four minutes later to tie the score at 1-1. With just 21 seconds left in the first half, MSUB's Kelly Ross scored off of a rebound and made the halftime score 2-1.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Jessie Huff scored a from the right side into the left corner of the goal, tying the game at 2-2. Neither team would be able to score again and the game went into overtime.

After an uneventful first overtime period, the game progressed into double-overtime. The Yellowjackets scored at the 107:38 mark thanks to a 10 yard shot by Jaucelyn Richter. 

Augustana was outshot 29-13 in the match. Shandri scored her first goal of the season while Huff's goal was her second of the season.

Sophomore goal keeper Melissa Fowler collected 8 saves and only allowed 1 goal in 65:38 minutes of play. 

The Vikings will next play St. Cloud State on Sept. 11 at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. Game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
