Box Score - Game 2

The Augustana softball team jumped on Mayville State to beat the Comets 11-0 in the first game of the doubleheader and followed it with a 6-5 come from behind win in the second Thursday at Bowden field.

The Vikings have now won 6 straight and are now 11-16 this season, while going 4-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Comets drop to 6-14 on the season with the pair of losses.

Game 1
It took just one pitched for the Vikings to get on the board when Kayla Henke sent a lead off home run over the fence in left center. Two batters later, Ally Rutherford sent a Comet offering over the fence to giving the Vikings a 2-0 first inning lead.

The Vikings added 2 more runs in the bottom of the second as Rutherford connected on her second solo home run of the game before pounding out 6 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the third.

After back-to-back singles and a passed ball, Taylor Kapsch drove in a run to make it 5-0 before Henke sent a triple over the left fielders head to drive in 2 more.

After a Comet error, the Vikings went on to score 4 more runs to cruise to an 11-0 win.

Viking starting pitcher Chelsey Durland (4-3) did not give up a hit until the fourth inning on a lazy Texas leaguer over the shortstops head.

It was the only hit she gave up in 5 innings of work, while striking out 6 of 16 batters faced.

Rutherford finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 home runs, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Henke also went 2-for-3 with a home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored

Game 2
The Vikings found themselves in a 3-0 deficit, as the Comets collected a run in each of the first three innings.

The Vikings bounced back in the bottom of the third, when Kapsch sent a single through the left side and stole second to set up Henke for her fourth RBI of the day on a double to left center. Erika Wolner then singled and Rutherford drove in Henke on an infield ground ball.

Traci Fransen tied the game up at 3-3 with a double to right center.

Wolner led the fifth inning off with a home run to drive the Comets starting pitcher Morgan Bickell from the game. Rutherford then welcomed Carmel Ditlevson to the game with a first pitch home run over the fence in left to take a 6-3 lead.

The Comets tried a last inning comeback driving 2 runs across, but the Vikings got out of the jam to take the 6-5 win.

Mickey Anderson earned a no decision for Augie, after giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits in 2.1 innings.

Britt Stewart

(3-5) came in as relief, going the final 4.2 innings. Her line was 2 runs on 4 hits, with 3 strike outs in 4.2 innings.

Rutherford went 1-for-4 with a third home run of the doubleheader, along with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Wolner went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored.

The Vikings will take on Mayville State in a second home doubleheader at Bowden field Friday at 3:30.
