The Augustana women’s tennis team returned to the court for the first time since last fall and dropped an 8-1 decision to Nebraska-Omaha Friday night at the Gustavus Adolphus Invitational in St. Peter, Minn.
The Vikings slipped to 1-3 on the season, while Nebraska-Omaha improved to 2-0.
The matches were closer than the final team score would indicate. Augustana captured the No. 1 doubles match as
Emily Gaster and
Brittany Gaster teamed up to beat Rachel Faulk and Kelsey Haas 8-6.
In singles action, Faulk edged Emily Gaster in the No. 1 matchup. Faulk won the first set tiebreaker 10-8 before winning the second set 6-2. At No. 2 singles, UNO’s Traci Moklestad won in straight sets over Brittany Gaster, but she had to win the second set 7-5.
Jill Hagestuen and
Emily Johnson each dropped tight straight-set matches at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
Augustana faced North Dakota late Friday night and will conclude the invitational by taking on host Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
