Augustana's Luke Butler Named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for Second Time in Four Weeks

For the second time in four weeks, Augustana quarterback Luke Butler has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Augustana's 47-19 win over Northern State on Saturday.

Butler, a senior from Pocatello, Idaho, accounted for 5 touchdowns in Augustana's win over Northern State. Butler completed 12 of 16 passes for 268 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 5 times for 33 yards, including a 16-yard scoring run.

Butler had a monster first quarter as he helped stake the Vikings to a 26-0 lead. He completed 8 of 10 passes for 202 yards and all 4 of his touchdowns in the period. His scores went for 34, 5, 59 and 2 yards. His 4 touchdown passes gave him 25 on the season, which tied an Augustana single-season touchdown pass record. Eric DeGraff also threw 25 touchdowns in 2000.

Butler's selection as Player of the Week is the fifth time time a Viking has earned the award this season. He also received the honor on October 19 following the Upper Iowa game. In addition, linebacker Chris Janisch and strong safety Mike Vanasek have been named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, while wide receiver Sam Holsen was the Offensive Player of the Week on Octber 26.

The Vikings finished the regular season with an 8-3 overall record and they tied for third place in the NSIC with a 7-3 mark. It is the team's first back-to-back 8-win seasons since 1988-89. In addition, the 25 wins over the past 4 seasons is the best 4-year win total since the program won 27 games from 1939-42.
