Women's Golf Adds Two Signees

Augustana head women's golf coach Peggy Kirby today announced that Maggie Leland of Alexandria, Minn., and Allie Ostrander of Glenwood, Minn., have signed national letters of intent to attend Augustana and play golf for the Vikings.

Leland will be a four-year starter this spring at Jefferson Senior High School in Alexandria. She is a two-time Central Lakes Conference champion after finishing as the league's runner-up as a freshman in 2007.

Leland, whose older sister Molly also competes for the Vikings, finished 10th at last year's Class AAA state tournament after finishing in 14th place as a freshman and sophomore. She also captured the 2009 sectional championship. She has played a key role in leading the Cardinals to three top 10 state tournament finishes. Jefferson was seventh in the team standings in 2009 after finishing third in 2008 and second in 2007.

“Maggie has a great attitude. She is such a competitor with so much drive and determination. She has had a very successful high school career to date. She will be a great addition both as a student and as a player.”

Ostrander has been a varsity competitor at Minnewaska Area High School since the eighth grade. Already a four-time All-West Central Conference performer, Ostrander finished second at the Class AA state meet the past two seasons, while helping the Lakers to four conference, section and state team titles.

“Allie is a strong all-around student-athlete, she loves sports and school,” Kirby said of Ostrander, who also competes on the volleyball and basketball teams. “She knows how to compete at a high level. She too comes from a very strong high school program. She will be a solid addition to an already competitive roster.”
