Augustana Tracksters Have Stong Showing at John Dalton Memorial Meet

Travis Beniak paced the Augie men by winning the mile run with a time of 4:26.04.

The Augustana track and field teams had 13 top five finishers Saturday at the John Dalton Memorial indoor meet at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. 

Noel Bentele earned the only first-place finish for the Viking women with a weight throw of 15.08 meters. Annaliese Pepin placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.76 and Rachel Christiansen took second in the shot put with a throw of 11.72 meters. 

LeAnn Severson took third in the 600 meter run, finishing in 1:41.13. Also with a third-place finish was Meagan Grandgenett, who ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.48. Laura Johnson ran the 3000-meter run in a time of 10:53.69 to earn her a fifth place finish. Karissa Pepin also placed fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.26 meters.

On the men's side, Travis Beniak won the mile run with a time of 4:26.04, and Matt Braithwaite came in fifth with a time of 4:35.03. Daniel Black finshed the 1000-meter run in 2:36.41, earning him second place. Paul Mallory took third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.61.

Kevin Knapp
placed third in the weight throw with a throw of 14.52 meters, and Aaron Jung took home fourth in the shot put, throwing 14.33 meters.

Both teams will compete next weekend at the Jack Johnson Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
