Vikings Soccer Shuts Out MSU-Billings 4-0

The Augustana women's soccer team put on an offensive show in the first half against Montana State-Billings, scoring early and often to beat up on the Yellowjackets 4-0 Sunday at Yankton Trail Park.

The win gives Augie a 2-1-1 record on the season, as MSU-Billings moves to 3-2-0.

Scoring came from all angles during the first half, in which seven Augie players would have a part in the scoring attack, while attempting eight corner kicks. In the half, the Vikings scored all 4 of their goals. Three scores were on headers, including two on corner kicks.

The scoring eruption began just 2:39 into the game when freshman Annie Bloom made a quick pass to sophomore Lisa Shirk, who received the pass, and headed it into the net past MSU-Billings goalkeeper Jordan Fenwick.

Fenwick would see a similar situation evolve minutes later when sophomore Stephanie Goos sent a corner kick towards the net, which freshman Kate Timmons headed in for the first goal of her career as an Augie at the 5:06 mark.

The goals continued to be poured on in the first half when freshman Raelyn Walczak assisted sophomore Katie Shandri on her team-leading third goal of the season at the 29:15 mark.

Timmons then scored her second goal of the game on a corner kick assist from junior Kayla Peek at the 38: 27 mark, giving Augie four goals on six shots on net in the first half.

Senior Lisa Jarovski started in net for Augie, saving four shots in the first half, Jarovski handed the job off to sophomore Mikhaila Baltes in the second half, who faced a more offensively aggressive MSU-Billings team that put up eight shots on net.

Baltes made all eight saves in the second half, preserving Augie its second shutout of the weekend and the season.

Augie ended the game with 17 total shots, with 13 coming in the first half.

The team will now move on to play Saturday in Marshall, Minn., against Southwest Minnesota State who is 0-3-0 on the season. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
