The Augustana wrestling team earned a pair of impressive dual wins over Morningside and Dana Thursday night in Blair, Neb. The Vikings downed Morningside 28-15 before defeating Dana 34-6.
Augustana (2-2) had five wrestlers both of their matches. Leading the way was Nick Henning. A 184-pounder, Henning picked up a pair of pins. He pinned Morningside’s Joe Lockett in 1:26 in the opening dual before pinning Dana’s John Schmalz in 2:35.
Jason Jeremiason was perfect on the night at 133 pounds. He pinned Morningside’s Jake McManigal in 1:35 and earned a 6-1 decision over Dana’s Matt Jacobson. At 141 pounds, Jay Sherer collected a pair of decisions, defeating Drew Smith of Morningside 8-3 and Adam Manz of Dana 5-3.
Also winning both matches were Carl Serck at 157 pounds and Lance Peters at 285 pounds. Serck scored an 18-4 major decision over Morningside’s Matt Mueller in addition to downing Dan Pray of Dana 7-3. Peters, meanwhile, pinned Alex Will of Morningside in 1:36 before recording a 12-4 major decision over Dana’s Jon Wilbourne.
Augustana returns to the mat this weekend when the Vikings compete in the MSU Moorhead Open on Saturday.
