The Augustana wrestling team dropped two duals to Nebraska and Oregon State Friday in Lincoln, Neb. The Vikings were defeated by Nebraska, 50-0, and Oregon State, 40-3.
Jay Sherer scored the Vikings sole win on the day. He defeated Ryan Harold of Oregon State at 141 pounds, 8-6. Sherer posted a 6-2 lead on a reversal late in the second period, but Harold was able to escape before the end of the period. In the third, Harold chose down, escaped quickly, and tied the match with a takedown with 1:20 remaining. However, Sherer was able to score a reversal with 11 seconds left to score the win.
At 165 pounds,
Marcus Edgington lost a close decision to Oregon State's Keegan Davis. Davis scored a takedown 1:15 into the match, and Edgington countered with an escape a minute later. Each wrestler escaped from the down position in the second and third periods, and Edgington could not muster any more scoring, losing 3-2.
At 197 pounds,
Ty Copsey took Chad Henke of Oregon State into overtime before losing, 4-3. After a scoreless first overtime period, Copsey was unable to escape from the down position in the second, but in the third, Henke escaped in 6 seconds to take the win.
The Vikings will next compete at a triangular against Dana College and Morningside College Thursday in Blair, Neb. The first match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
