The Augustana Women's Basketball team has signed two South Dakota high school standouts to letters of intent to attend Augustana College and play for the Vikings head coach
Dave Krauth announced today. Signing with the Vikings were
Emily Schulte of Sioux Falls, S.D. and
Lydia Nelson from Lake Preston, S.D.
Schulte is a 5-foot-7 guard from O'Gorman High School. Last season as a junior she averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game to go along with 41 steals. In addition, she was named to the Class AA All-State First Team as well as the All-Greater Dakota Conference and all-city teams.
As a sophomore, Schulte averaged 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest as she earned all-conference honorable mention recognition. The Knights posted a 21-5 record in 2006-07 and finished third at the state tournament.
In addition, Schulte lettered for O'Gorman as a freshman in 2005-06 when the Knights went 20-6 and were finished as the state runner-up.
Schulte is also a standout volleyball player for the Knights. She is the sister of current Augustana football player Tyler Schulte.
Nelson is a 5-11 forward at Lake Preston High School. During the 2007-08 season, Nelson averaged 17.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She was named to the Class B All-State Second Team as well as the All-Dakota Valley Conference Team.
As a sophomore in 2006-07, Nelson averaged 11.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game as she earned all-conference honors.
Nelson also is an all-conference volleyball player for the Divers.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to sign Emily and Lydia to national letters,” Krauth said. “They are both very athletic players and will bring that dimension to the court for us in addition to their many basketball skills. Emily and Lydia are excited about their opportunities at Augustana and we are equally excited to have two great additions to our program and school.”
